PHS falls in OT; Saranac Lake captures win

DELMAR — A depleted hockey team doesn’t do much good this late in the season.

Chris Caswell’s game-winning goal with 1:28 elapsed in overtime helped Bethlehem to a 3-2 win over an injury-ridden Plattsburgh High team in boys’ non-league action Friday night.

RJ Diego helped the Eagles get on the board with just 1:24 remaining in the opening stanza with the assist credited to Joey Verstandig.

However, Eric Bechard notched the game at one a piece with a tally at 4:34 of the middle stanza. Jack Tolosky and Alex Maston each had an assist.

After Verstandig made it 2-1, the Hornets answered right back.

Tolosky registered his first of the game with 51 seconds remaining in the second period.

“I thought we played well in their building, and met the challenge,” Plattsburgh High coach Jamie Reidy said. “The first two goals we gave up were mental lapses in the defensive zone.

“We ran out of gas because we don’t have the numbers right now. We gain a lot coming out of this game, and it was a solid effort.”

The Hornets play South Glens Falls today at 1 p.m.
