Two teams remain unbeaten in CYO basketball


---- — MALONE — North Star and the Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club both remained unbeaten in Franklin CYO Basketball League play with wins last weekend.

North Star (7-0) recorded a 59-53 victory over Maranatha, while Ogdensburg was a 62-48 winner over Bangor.

In other games, Chateaugay posted a 59-55 decision over Bangor, and PAPAS Dairy was a 58-55 winner over St. John Bosco.


Chateaugay 59, Bangor 55

Chateaugay jumped out to an early 17-9 lead and held off a furious Bangor comeback attempt. Ryan Jaques hit two threes in a row in the fourth quarter to pull Bangor to within one, but clutch foul shooting by Chateaugay sealed the win.

Zack Cook led the winners with 18 points, while Josh Juntunen finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, Darian Velasquez 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Zach Snyder, seven points. Jaques finished with 27 points for Bangor, while Devan Monette added 11 points and seven rebounds.

PAPAS Dairy 58,

St. John Bosco 55

Justin Preve led the winners with 20 points, with 15 of those coming on 3-pointers. A.J. Secore was next with nine points. There were three lead changes in the fourth quarter before some clutch free-throw shooting by Wally Poupore, Preve and Adam Beane resulted in the final margin of victory.

St. John Bosco’s upset bid was led by Corey LaMere with 20 points and five assists. Leon LaMere added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and John Armstrong eight points. Two Corey LaMere 3-pointers put St. John Bosco ahead in the fourth.

North Star 59, Maranatha 53

The 6-point win was the largest margin of victory at St. Joseph’s Gym on Saturday. Mike LaVoie led the winners with 20 points, while Isai Paradones and Brent Hutchins each chipped in with 13 and Alex Shackett, 11.

Tony DeStefano paced North Star with 12 points, while Ben Haug finished with a double-double of 10 points and 18 rebounds.


Ogdensburg 62, Bangor 48

The Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club continued a season-long series of fast starts. Konnor Murdock led the way with 20 points, five rebounds and three steals as Ogdensburg held a 47-17 advantage early in the second half. David Tomford added 14 points and nine rebounds, and Rudy Binion 12 points for Ogdensburg.

Bangor was paced by Ryan Jaques with 19 points, John King 14 points and Devan Monette, nine.
