Softball coaching vacancy at NCCS

Cards’ Baleshta Rookie of Week

CORTLAND — Luke Baleshta of the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team has been named State University of New York Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 6.

Baleshta earns the first weekly honor of his career after compiling three points in a weekend split for the Cardinals. Baleshta, who hails from Cambridge, Ontario, tallied a pair of assists on Friday, including the primary assist on the eventual game-winner in a 7-1 win against Skidmore. On Saturday, he added another assist in Plattsburgh’s loss at Castleton.

Through 15 games, Baleshta leads the Cardinals with 11 assists and 16 points. He ranks fifth in Division III and first among SUNYAC freshmen with 1.23 points per game.

The Cardinals are ranked 10th in the latest USCHO.com Division III poll and return to the Stafford Ice Arena this weekend for two non-conference games. Plattsburgh hosts Middlebury Friday on United Way Night before closing out the weekend against Williams on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.

Buck Contest winners announced

DANNEMORA — The Siberian Rod & Gun Club held its 2012 Buck Contest, below are the winners.

Clarence Duquette of Cadyville had the largest buck. Lee Plumadore of Saranac was the hidden weight winner. Matthew Munn of Morrisonville won the No Buck prize.

All proceeds from the contest are used to send area children to Camp Colby Environmental Summer Camp.

CYH meeting Monday

CHAZY — Chazy Youth Hockey will be holding its monthly meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at Scotts’ Rink in Chazy.
