Former Peru standout and state champion Nick Weaver, wrestling for Sierra College, wins a California junior-college regional tournament.

Mike Fernandez scores 15 points and Brendan Smith, 14, to lead Moriah past host Willsboro 64-33 in the Tip-off Tournament final. Ben Reynolds tallies 13 for Willsboro.

Steve Thomas fires in 27 points while Justin Gardner grabs nine rebounds and six steals in Northern Adirondack’s 58-46 triumph over Peru. Ryan Earle leads Peru with 13.

Sophomore defenseman Kyle Gagnier’s first career goal lifts Seton Catholic to a 2-1 win over Cheverus in the title game of the Bishop’s Cup Hockey Tournament in Lewiston, Maine.

Tyler McGibbon records five pins while Jake Warren and Andy Warren each register three wins by fall as Franklin Academy of Malone sweeps the Ballston Spa Duels.

Tyler James, Travis James, Jason Lapham and Jeremy Smith win their weight classes to lead Beekmantown to the title in the 16-team Woodlands Wrestling Tournament.

Marcia and Mary Coakley account for all of Beekmantown’s points (19) in the fourth quarter as the Eagles rally from a 12-point deficit to defeat PHS, 38-35. Courtney Drown scores 15 for the Hornets.

Olivia Dwyer scores 25 points and grabs 13 rebounds in Keene’s 61-28 drubbing of Johnsburg.

Brian Cook comes off the bench to score 10 points, grab seven rebounds and pick up five steals as PHS, leading by 18 at one point, holds on to beat previously undefeated Saranac, 66-60.

Matt St. Louis’s goal early in the third snaps a scoreless game, sending unbeaten Lake Placid on to a 2-1 win over PHS. Joe Leonard also scores for the Blue Bombers, while Ryan Lynch gets the PHS goal.

Jacki Hutchins scores 13 points, grabs six rebounds and gets six steals in Elizabethtown-Lewis’s 40-34 win over Schroon Lake. Tabitha Hood leads the Wildcats with seven points and 12 rebounds.

20 YEARS AGO (1992)

Lenny Pereira’s power-play goal midway through the third gives Plattsburgh State a 4-3 lead; however, Moscow Spartak rallies for a 6-4 victory in front of 2,178 fans.

Mike Recore sinks six free throws in overtime to help Chateaugay trim St. Regis Falls, 58-55. Matt Campbell scores 20 points to lead the Bulldogs.

Todd Coupal scores a goal and adds three assists to lead Seton Catholic to a 4-1 win over Suffern in the final of the Albany Academy hockey tournament. Jesse Boulerice and Jason Cummings also score for the Knights.

Erik Richard scores twice and Jason Sample makes 29 saves for the shutout as Northeastern Clinton beats host Missisquoi Valley Union High School, 2-0, in the tournament final.

Kevin Manchester scores 25 points as Peru pours in 32 points in the fourth quarter to overtake Saranac, 77-76. Tom Welch nets 37 and Jamie Allen, 20, for the Chiefs.

Robin Rovers scores 14 points to help Chazy defeat Schroon Lake, 42-41, despite Becca Robinson’s 32-point effort.

Suzanne Frenyea scores 22 points and grabs 15 rebounds while Mariellen Hensgen chips in with 12 points and 13 rebounds to spark Beekmantown to a 46-42 win over Northeastern Clinton. Jen Louden tallies 14 for the Cougars.

Chad Barber, Andy Hemmingway, Trent Curry and Scott Jarvis all record pins in NAC’s 40-21 triumph over Peru.

Paulette Poirier scores a school-record 31 points in Brushton-Moira’s 60-41 win over Parishville-Hopkinton.

25 YEARS AGO (1987)

Senior running back Kirk Little earns All-Ivy League honorable mention after rushing for 893 yards for Brown University.

Junior Peggy Corrigan helps the University of Rochester volleyball team to a 31-17 season and a second-place finish in the conference tournament.

Senior co-captain Sara Payette and freshman Kari Parrish star for Oneonta State in volleyball with Payette leading the team with 481 kills and earning all-conference honors. Parish is considered the defensive standout for the Red Dragons.

Former Keene standout Rick Lehman earns MVP honors in the East Coast Conference men’s soccer championship after leading Lafayette College to a 5-0 victory over Rider College.

Mike Ryan scores 15 points and Clint Cowan contributes 13 to spark Chateaugay to a 55-46 win over MAI. Matt Miller paces the Mounties with 17.

Tina Peryer and Angie Dumas of Malone’s state championship girls’ team join Derek Taylor, Jeff Mulverhill and Scott Fraser from the boys’ team on the state cross-country all-star team.

Dale Bigelow drops in 31 points to lead Willsboro to an 87-51 win over Dannemora. Pat Patnode leads the Knights with 13.

Billy Wells improves to 5-0 at 167 pounds while teammates Kenny Gebo, Mike King, Guy Peryea and Travis McLennon also record two wins each in Beekmantown’s sweep of Warrensburg and Whitehall in wrestling.

Andrea Hull scores 12 points to go with eight rebounds and four steals as AuSable Valley uses a big fourth quarter to defeat PHS, 37-33. Leigh Ryan leads PHS with 12 points.

Michelle Scorsome scores 20 points and Stacey Kimball chips in with 18 to spark Moriah to a 55-40 win over Ticonderoga.

30 YEARS AGO (1982)

Pam Leopard, Sara Payette, Yolanda Ting, Lisa Papa, Sue Payette and Tracey Lockwood lead Plattsburgh High to a 3-2 victory over MAI, snapping the Mounties’ winning streak at 65 games and their six-year hold on the Section VII Class B volleyball crown.

Tammie Kowalowski, Amanda LeClair, Amy Trombley, Michelle LaMare and Lori Siskavich lead Northern Adirondack to a 3-0 victory over Saranac for the Class C volleyball title.

Saranac Lake’s Todd Fobare sets the career hockey scoring mark for Union College with five assists in the Dutchmen’s 10-2 rout of the University of Buffalo. It gives him 135 career points on 52 goals and 83 assists.

Rick Yorkey scores twice and John Goodrow adds a shorthanded goal to lead Saranac Lake to a 3-2 upset of previously unbeaten Ogdensburg Free Academy.

Sophomore left-winger Dave Jewtraw scores four goals and junior Mark Hudak contributes three in Lake Placid’s 9-4 thrashing of Norwood-Norfolk.

Paul Lemza pours in 38 points and Derrick DeSimone adds 16 with nine rebounds to lead Moriah past Northeastern Clinton, 78-68. Andy Guay scores 19 points and Roy Maskell grabs 14 rebounds for the Cougars.

John McLaughlin and Joel Dolbeck each tally 15 points as unbeaten Ticonderoga turns back Peru, 59-57.

Ron Boyer and Todd LaBombard each get a goal and an assist while Dale Tetreault posts 10 saves for the shutout in Northeastern Clinton’s 5-0 victory over Malone. Mike McDonald comes up with 45 saves for the Huskies.

Dave Collins completes a buzzer-beating 3-point play to give PHS a 54-52 win over MAI.

40 YEARS AGO (1972)

John Zerrahn scores 29 points to pace Peru to a 69-51 victory over MAI. Rocky Drollette leads the Mounties with 18.

Junior Kevin Patnode sinks 14 points to lead AuSable Valley to a 56-44 triumph over Beekmantown. Mike Ducatte nets 11 for the Eagles.

Vermont tops Plattsburgh State 59-50 to win the PSUC Field House Dedication Tournament. Don Verkey scores 19 points and Jim Perkins, 11, for the Cardinals. Six-foot-seven center George Peredy scores 20 points and grabs 20 rebounds to lead the Catamounts while Joe Greco is named tourney MVP.

Pat Defayette scores 20 points and Steve Chilton connects on some clutch free throws to lead NAC past MAI 53-52.

George Poissant scores 20 points while Jim Riley and Tom Rice each add 17 as unbeaten Chazy downs defending MVL champ Willsboro 75-70 in overtime. Mike Jerdo scores 24 points and Keith Coonrod, 20, for the Warriors.

50 YEARS AGO (1962)

Homer Barcomb’s basket with 17 seconds to play gives Moriah a 55-54 win over Lake George.

Paul Demerse scores 19 points and Ron Dumas, 14, to lead MAI to a 67-62 win over PHS.

PHS bounces back to beat Burlington 72-61 with Jim Baker netting 21 and Dick Booth adding 15.

Bob Sunderland and Larry Dominic score key victories to spur Ellenburg on to a 24-22 come-from-behind wrestling win over PHS.

John Pelkaus scores 21 points and ties the school record for assists with 14 in Plattsburgh State’s 101-74 victory over Norwich University. The assist mark was set by Irv McLaren during the 1956 season.

Alton Garrand and Wright Sample each score 30 points to spur the Mooers town team on to a 115-106 victory over Champlain. Jack Fitzpatrick scores 55 in a losing cause.

60 YEARS AGO (1952)

Ray Diaz scores 16 points and Norm Bezio, 10, to lead MAI to a 43-30 victory over Lake Placid. Wescott nets nine for the Blue Bombers.

Clevice Fessette nets 22 points to lead St. John’s to a 53-36 win over Chateaugay. Jack Mellon scores 10 for the Ponies.

Norm Landry scores 19 points, Ray Diaz adds 18 and Guy Brand tosses in 14 as MAI avenges an earlier loss to Mineville with a 73-66 victory. Bill Brennan scores 19 to lead the Red Flame while Chet Hargett hits for 17.

Don Ashlaw fires in 24 points to lead the Purple Tide of St. Joseph’s to a 54-45 win over Keeseville. Riani scores 15 for the Panthers.

Dick Jakich nets 19 points to spark OLVA to a 38-36 win over St. John’s.

70 YEARS AGO (1942)

Freshman Frank Steltzer, a letter-winner in football, is the starting center for St. Lawrence University’s undefeated basketball team.

Nolette nets 22 points to lead Rouses Point to a 33-28 win over St. John’s. Jarvis leads the Green and White with 14.

Stokes tallies 16 points in Plattsburgh High’s 37-11 win over Lyon Mountain. Thompson leads the Miners with four.

W. Way drops in 21 points to lead Westport to a 23-15 win over Moriah. D. Baker and R. Hanchett each score six for Moriah.
