PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Elks Senior Babe Ruth team picked up a win in their final game of the season, defeating Georgia (Vt.) 12-4 Monday.
The ballgame was originally scheduled to be a nine-inning contest, but was cut short due to an injury.
Beekmantown’s Greg Manney was 2-for-4 at the plate, hitting a two-RBI single in the fifth inning to extend Plattsburgh’s lead to 9-1.
In the following frame, Durgan Zappala of Saranac belted a two-RBI double in a three-run sixth inning. Like Manney, Zappala also finished 2-for-4.
Northeastern Clinton’s Garrett Begore and recent Saranac graduate Kyle Erickson were a combined 4-for-5 from the plate, with Begore registering an RBI.
Nate Emery (two RBI), Austin Medeiros (two RBI), Garrett Manchester (RBI) and Alex Maston (RBI) also made notable contributions on offense.
After being pulled in the fifth inning, Manney recorded the win on the mound.
“Greg Manny pitched very well to get the win, with four strikeouts and two walks, while giving up just one hit,” Elks coach Jim Manchester said. “Even though the rain cut almost two-thirds of our season, our players made the most of it and had an enjoyable baseball experience.”
Georgia’s Ben Millward and Jordan Clarke each went 2-for-3, with Millward hitting a triple.
Morgan Wynes was 1-for-3, with an RBI. Pat Millin was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Georgia starts its state tournament Thursday.
