Saints finish fifth at Mount St. Mary's

NEWBURGH — The North Country Community College men’s cross-country team finished fifth out of 16 teams and first among junior colleges at Saturday’s Mount St. Mary College Invitational Cross-Country Meet.

Union College won the men’s division with a 53, while SUNY Cobleskill was second at 62. The Saints finished with 163.

Leading the way for North Country were Llaney Hernandez 11th overall in 29:37 and Josh Cook 16th in 29:50.

“What made the difference for us was our No. 3, 4 and 5 runners, Jeremy Jones, Jordan Haviland and Zach Peltier, who stepped up and ran the best races they’ve run this year,” said North Country coach David Tyldesley.

“We’re peaking at the right time and this is our best finish and performance since we started the cross-country program. It’s exciting.”

Jones finished 23rd in 30:31, Haviland 59th in 33:02 and Peltier 94th in 35:37. There were 150 runners in the men’s race.

St. Joseph’s of Long Island won the women’s event in 27, with Union College second with 68.

The Saints took two women to the event, with Kaylan Short 83rd in 26:31 and Clarissa Mango 95th in 27:33. A total of 136 competed in the women’s race.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. –— The Plattsburgh State men’s cross country team stacked up well against some of the toughest competition in all of the NCAA, finished 21st out of the 33 teams that took part in the 39th Annual Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem Pa., on Friday.
