---- — PLATTSBURGH — Former Plattsburgh State pitcher and current Fourth Ward A’s hurler Brian Burns has made quite an impact the first two weeks in the Champlain Valley Baseball League by dominating the Fourth Ward Cardinals and Meron’s Expos, including a no-hitter over the Expos.
If Burns is still in town today, his next assignment will be pitching in the Big Ball Diamond against the Lyon Mountain Miners, who are currently tied for first place with the Expos, both with 3-1 records.
The A’s (2-2) and Miners go at it in a doubleheader at noon.
Lyon Mountain split two games with the Cardinals a weekend ago, with David Waldron and Justin Besaw combining on a two-hitter in the opener.
Meron’s, after splitting two games with the A’s last Sunday with Billy Davis pitching a four-hitter in the opener, is home at South Acres Field today in a noon twinbill against the Peabody’s Padres (1-3), who split a doubleheader with the Fourth Ward Timberjaxx (1-3) a weekend ago. Matt Rivers tossed a five-inning shutout for the Padres, who rapped out four home runs in the first game
The final doubleheader of the day is between the Timberjaxx and Cardinals (2-2) at Lefty Wilson Field. That twinbill will start at 11 a.m. because of tryouts for the Clinton County American Legion baseball program which will follow.
D.J. DeJesus picked up the pitching win for the Timberjaxx in their victory over the Padres and Justin Mahan had three hits. Jack Tolosky led the way with three hits when the Cardinals held on for a win over the Miners in Game 2.
