Flynn hits game-winner for Peru

PLATTSBURGH — Maddy Flynn and Kara Barber delivered the key hits in the top of the eighth inning Wednesday to break a scoreless tie and give Peru a 3-0 victory over Plattsburgh High in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference softball.

Winning pitcher Kelly Neenan and the Hornets’ Jamie Bedard both pitched shutout ball through seven innings.

But in the eighth, after two were out, Flynn singled in the game-winning run and Barber then added a two-run double.

Neenan allowed five hits, struck out five and walked five. Bedard, meanwhile, surrendered six hits, struck out four and issued three walks.

“It was pretty exciting stuff,” Plattsburgh coach Neil Bowlen said. “It was definitely a tough game to lose.

“It was a well-pitched game by both teams and there were no errors by either side. It was a classic.”

Linzee Wright accounted for a double and single, while Nicole Breton added two singles for Peru.

Rachel Bedard paced Plattsburgh with two singles, while Madison Trombley, Cieara Duquette and Madison Bushey each added a single.

ELLENBURG — Lauren Brace belted out five hits, including a double, as the Vikings captured their first victory of the season with a win over the Bobcats.

Madison Stahl chipped in with three hits, while Shelby MacDougal finished with two hits. Winning pitcher Taylor Sprague added two hits, with a double.

Amanda Campbell paced Northern Adirondack with a home run. Jillian Scott tallied three hits, while Darbi Rabideu and Taylor Durnin each had two hits.

Alexis Boulerice took the loss for the Bobcats.
