Plattsburgh State drops contest to Fredonia

---- — PLATTSBURGH — With both teams taking 13 shots and the Plattsburgh State women’s team holding a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks, one would have thought it would have been a favorable outcome for the Cardinals on Friday.

It wasn’t favorable at all, however.

The Cardinals’ losing streak and offensive woes continued in a 3-0 loss to Fredonia in SUNY Athletic Conference play at the Field House Soccer Complex.

The Blue Devils (9-3-1, 3-2-1) opened the scoring when Kristi Putzig found the corner from straight on with 27:03 gone in the first half.

The Cardinals took six corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes and had their chances when the ball bounced around in front of the Fredonia net on different occasions. But Plattsburgh was unable to get the equalizer.

Any thoughts of a Plattsburgh comeback ended when Reilly Condidorio took a pass from Katie Kleine, who also assisted on the first goal, and gave the Blue Devils a 2-0 advantage with just 1:23 gone in the second half.

Fredonia added the finishing touch with 9:20 gone when Kayla Stayer sent a hard shot into the net to make it 3-0.

Meaghan Meszaros recorded the shutout in net with four saves and Danielle Schmitt stopped one shot for the Cardinals (5-9-0, 1-5-0), who have dropped five games in a row.

The Cardinals, who needed a big weekend at home to stay in the SUNYAC Tournament picture, host Buffalo State at 1 p.m. today. It will be Senior Day, with Renee Egan, Ashley McKenelley, Olivia Hopeck and Kristie Pageau being honored.
