Eagles slip past Hornets in Div. I showdown

PLATTSBURGH — Beekmantown remains unbeaten after freshman Lindsey Gonyea scored the lone goal of the game off a pass from Kelly Villemaire to trump Plattsburgh 1-0 in girls’ Northern Soccer League action Friday.

Villemaire capitalized on a bad clearance by the Hornets in the first half, grabbing the ball and sending it up field to Gonyea who finished it off for the Eagles.

Despite the loss, Plattsburgh had a solid defensive effort from sweeper Cierra Duquette while midfielder Madison Trombley helped out the defense and also sparked some opportunities up front.

Beekmantown’s Amanda Peterson and Kiley Regan stood out on both the defensive and offensive side of the ball while keeper Lauren O’Conner grabbed the shutout with seven saves.

“It was a great game,” Hornets coach Tim Mulligan said. “These were two very good teams getting ready for post season play.”
