Chapot sweeps features at Lake Placid Horse Show

LAKE PLACID — Laura Chapot swept both featured classes Thursday at the 44th annual Lake Placid Horse Show.

Chapot, who’s from Neshanic Station, N.J., rode Bradberry to victory in the High Peaks Resort 1.40 meter speed class and then followed that up with a win on Umberto in the WPTZ News Channel 5 1.30 meter class.

In the 1.40 meter class, Chapot completed the 11-jump, one-round course fault-free in 45.765 seconds to claim the win over Todd Minikus of Loxahatchee, Fla., who finished in 46.331 seconds on Tuxedo. In the 1.30 meter class, Chapot topped a field of 54 horses by covering the 12-jump course fault-free in 56.202 seconds. Minikus again placed second, finishing in 56.701 seconds on Romeo.

The horse show continues through Sunday at the North Elba Showgrounds and is followed by the 36th-annual I Love New York Horse Show July 2 through 7.

The show begins at 8 a.m. each day, with competition running in four rings simultaneously.

Highlighting the competition are the $75,000 Equine Insurance Services/Great American Grand Prix of Lake Placid on Sunday, June 30, and the $100,000 Woodlea Farms Grand Prix on Saturday, July 6. Another highlighted competition is the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby on July 7.

Admission to both shows is $2 on weekdays and $5 on weekends. Children under 12 are admitted free. Tickets are available at the gate. Guided walking tours are offered both weeks on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 11:30 a.m. The tour costs $1 and starts at the Lake Placid Horse Show’s Retail Booth.
