Casey nets 20, leads Peru past AuSable Valley

PERU — The Peru boys’ basketball team wasn’t going to let a three-point deficit spoil its chances of a win in its home opener Tuesday.

The Indians, behind a 20-point performance from Conor Casey, outscored AuSable Valley by an 18-10 margin in the fourth quarter to post a 56-51 victory in Northern Basketball League play.

“Intensity from AuSable set the tone,” Peru coach John Clemons said. “(Shane) Douglas played a strong game, scoring 13 of his 22 in the third quarter.

“We pulled back into game with ball control. Hustle plays made it a close game for AuSable. (Zane) Bazzano gave us a spark off the bench to get us going. It was a good team win in a tough, close game.”

Behind Casey’s 20 points, five rebounds and five assists, Jordan Guay added 15 points and seven assists.

Tyler Lemza added seven points for the Indians. Nick Lawliss grabbed 15 boards.

Douglas was the backbone of the Patriots’ offense, knocking down two 3-pointers to go along with his 22 points. John Goodnough was also a notable performer, recording 12 points.
