Minerva/Newcomb stuns Seton Catholic in girls' NBL crossover

OLMSTEDVILLE — Up six points at the end of the third quarter, the Minerva/Newcomb girls’ basketball team searched for someone to help put the game away.

In stepped Astasia Myler.

Myler dropped 26 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and collected four steals as the Mountaineers knocked off Seton Catholic in a Northern Basketball League crossover contest Friday, 57-53.

Makenzie Winslow (9), Nicole Rubertone (8) and Gabrielle McNally (7) combined for 24 points and were also significant contributors in Minerva/Newcomb’s 18-point fourth quarter.

Kelli Ryan (15) and Paige Spittler (11) combined for 26 points for the Knights, who were unable to manage a lead throughout.

Indian Lake/Long Lake 47, Lake Placid 31

LONG LAKE — Shannon Farrell went 10-for-12 from the foul line and finished with 14 points and 11 assists as the Orange knocked off the Blue Bombers.

Ronya Hamdan added 12 points, nine rebounds and seven steals for Indian Lake/Long Lake. Lily Dechene finished with 10 points and six rebounds.

Hannah Potter led all scorers with 16 points to pace Lake Placid.

Westport 53, Crown Point 38

WESTPORT — Hannah Schwoebel had a team-high 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Eagles past the Panthers.

Sarah Looby and Ellie Schwoebel each chipped in with 12 points for Westport. Brendee Russell finished with 11 points, 10 assists and five rebounds.

Amanda Wolf scored a game-high 23 points in the loss for Crown Point.
