Matott nets two, Eagles hold off Skaneateles

CHAZY — Katie Matott scored two goals and the Beekmantown girls’ hockey team held off Skaneateles, 3-2, on Friday night.

The game was scoreless until Matott gave the Eagles the lead with a power-play goal, assisted by Lauren O’Connor, at 8:56.

Sophie Kush’s power-play goal for the visitors then tied it with 2:10 remaining in the second stanza.

But Kiley Regan, with Clara Giroux and Brielle Carnright assisting, put Beekmantown ahead to stay 18 seconds into the third. Matott then made it 3-1, from O’Connor, with 1:54 left in regulation.

Skaneateles closed out the scoring on Allison Weiss’ power-play goal with just five ticks left on the clock.

Beekmantown finished with a 30-13 advantage in shots, with Taylor Laurin making 11 saves in the Eagles’ nets and Amanda Lupo 27 stops for Skaneateles.

It was Senior Night for the Eagles, with O’Connor, Regan and Cailee LaPorte being honored.

“It was a big win for us on Senior Night,” Beekmantown coach Ray Guay said. “We came out ready to play and played a strong game against a good team with a good goalie.

“We do need to be a little more disciplined, however, and stay out of the box. But, overall, we played well.”

FORT COVINGTON — Lizzie Bimonte’s goal at 7:51 of the third period broke a 1-all tie and gave the Blue Bombers their win.

The game was scoreless until Jenny Dejung’s power-play goal at 9:47 of the second gave the Shamrocks the lead.

But Lake Placid got a big goal to tie it, with just 42 seconds left in the second when Jayde Dukette scored from Emily Godin.
