Westport holds off Lake Placid in boys' NBL

WESTPORT — Anderson Gay finished just shy of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds as Westport defeated Lake Placid 45-36 in boys’ Northern Basketball League play Tuesday.

The Eagles held a 26-14 lead at halftime — a big enough cushion to withstand a stronger second half by Lake Placid.

Sam Napper scored eight for the Westport, Robert King had seven and Ryan Davis pulled down 10 rebounds.

Tarik Cecunjanin paced the Blue Bombers with 12 points, while Chris Kordziel and Scott Rossi each tossed in eight.

Ticonderoga 49, Chazy 32

CHAZY — Anthony DuShane (12) and Michael Graney (11) combined for 23 points in the Sentinels’ 17-point win.

“The game was very close in the first half,” Eagles coach Cory Thompson said. “Both teams played well defensively. We had a slow start to the third quarter and Ticonderoga was able to capitalize.

“Defensively, we were happy to keep Ticonderoga under 50 points (Tuesday). Offensively, we went ice cold in the second half. Michael Graney and Anthony DuShane played well for Ticonderoga.”
