Peru wrestlers avenge loss to B'town

PERU — The Peru wrestling team avenged last week’s loss to Beekmantown with a 50-27 decision on Wednesday in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action.

The Indians (8-9, 3-2) recorded four pins to post the victory over the Eagles (9-8, 3-2), who edged Peru, 38-37, last week.

“Jay Oakes and Tanner Phillips had good wins for us and Dustin Neyer had a big win after being pinned by his opponent the last time they wrestled,” Peru co-head coach Gary Edwards said.

“Both teams wrestled hard and a couple of matches went our way this time. It also helped that we won the flip so we could set our line-up differently.”

Oakes (138), Phillips (160), Aaron Bell (170) and Jordan Bushey (182) won by fall for the Indians, while Carson Dobozy (99), Brandon Goddeau (106), Ethan Feazelle (126) and Neyer (220) won by decision.

Nick Bushey (145) and Dakota Arquette (152) were winners by forfeit for Peru.

Recording wins by fall for Beekmantown were Justin Steady (285), Casey Provost (120), Jon Graziane (132) and Brandon Defayette (195).

Anthony Cartee (113) won by decision for the Eagles.
