Moriah remains unbeaten with win over Westport

PORT HENRY — The Moriah girls’ basketball team continued its torrid start to the basketball season Wednesday.

The Vikings captured their eighth win of the season and stayed perfect in the standings with a 42-26 win over Westport in girls’ Northern Basketball League play.

Madison Stahl had the scoring touch for Moriah, netting a game-high 23 points. Taylor Sprague chipped in with seven points, while Sarah Slattery finished with six.

After falling behind 14-6 in the first quarter, the Eagles held tough with the undefeated Vikings the rest of the way.

Brendee Russell paced Westport with 10 points. Ellie Schwoebel finished with six points.

Elizabethtown-Lewis 53, Ticonderoga 29

ELIZABETHTOWN — Lily Whalen had 16 points to lead the Lions over the Sentinels.

Whalen scored 12 of her points in the fourth quarter after returning from an injury. She added five assists in the game.

Elizabethtown-Lewis outscored Ticonderoga 12-3 in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead, and distanced itself even further in the fourth quarter.

“It was a lot closer game than the final score,” Lions coach Don Ratliff said. “Lexi (Moore) and Delaney (Hughes) did a good job against our pressure.”

Jasmin Barnes added 13 points, eight rebounds and eight steals for Elizabethtown-Lewis. Angel Barnes pulled down nine rebounds, while Emma Disogra hauled in eight. Savannah Graves tossed in nine points.

Hughes led Ticonderoga with 11 points, while Sadie Hamel chipped in with eight.
