SARANAC — Saranac softball coach Sam Campbell is faced with a good problem, if there is such a thing.

Campbell has a number of exceptional pitchers on his roster fighting for playing time on the mound.

Tuesday, however, Northern Adirondack might have faced one of his best.

Sophomore Tori Trim struck out 15 of 22 batters faced and surrendered just four hits in a 7-1 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference win over the Bobcats.

“Fortunately for us, Northern Adirondack committed some fielding errors that put players on base,” Chiefs coach Campbell said. “We were able to hang on until we scored four in the fourth inning.”

Saranac, who is ranked No. 25 in Sunday’s New York State Sportswriters Association Class B poll, was able to open up a three-run lead through three innings of play.

In the fourth, the Chiefs were able to get runners in scoring position before Kourtnie Campbell belted a two-RBI single.

Trim helped her own cause by registering two singles at the plate, was credited with the win on the mound.

“Trim was hitting the strike zone all game long,” Campbell said. “Her pitches had a lot of movement.”

Alexis Boulerice was tagged with the loss. The freshman, though, struck out eight and walked three batters in six innings of work.

Magan Magee led the Bobcats with two hits.

Brooke Reid led Lake Placid, going 2-for-4.

“As the season progresses, we’ve just got to keep chipping away,” Bowlen said. “We’re 3-1, and I don’t think we’ve played our best softball yet. We’re continuing to evolve.’
