Mariners gain split with no-hitter

---- — PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Mariners got off to another slow start Sunday before rallying in a 4-3 loss to the Montreal Titans at Lefty Wilson Field.

Brandon Rabideau, however, made sure it didn’t happen again in the second game.

Rabideau tossed a no-hitter in Clinton County’s 7-0 victory, enabling the Mariners (4-1) to get a split on the day. Rabideau struck out 12 and walked three.

“Brandon threw very well,” Mariners coach Matt Tolosky said. “This was the first time this season where our opponent hasn’t scored in the first inning. Then we made it happen in the bottom of the first by scoring two runs.

“We grew as a team today and overcame a hurdle.”

Clinton County had just four hits but made them count, scoring two runs in the first and five in the sixth.

Jeremy Barber had a two-run single in the first, Logan Recor a two-run double in the sixth and Tanner Rascoe a three-run double in the sixth. Kasey Favreau also chipped in with a double.

In the first game, the Titans jumped in front with four runs in the first before Robby Knowles took over on the mound and blanked Montreal the rest of the way to give his team a chance to come back.

“Robby struck out 12 and was great,” Tolosky said. “I compliment both Robby and Brandon for how well they pitched today.

“But it was the same old story for us with the slow start. In the previous three games, however, we were able to come back and win.”

Clinton County made it interesting with three runs in the bottom of the seventh when Adam Goldfarb doubled in two runs and Chris Roenbeck hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a third. The Mariners, however, stranded two runners when the final out was recorded.

“We never got our leadoff hitter on base the entire game,” Tolosky said. “But we struck out only once and hit the ball hard. They played great defense and we hit the ball hard at times right at people.

“In the seventh, it was too little, too late.”

Goldfarb finished with a single and double and Ryan Meyer added a double which came in the seventh inning.

The Mariners return to action on Tuesday at the Colchester Cannons.
