PERU — With only five returning players, there will be a lot of new faces on this year’s Adams Glass Senior Babe Ruth baseball team.
Players back include Peru’s Nick Demarais, Nick Uliva, Ryan McCall and Luis Pepen-Matos, along with AuSable Valley’s Kyle Sprague.
Newcomers include Plattsburgh High’s Kristian Sherman, Northeastern Clinton’s Kevin Sousa, Kyle McCarthy and Alex Lamberton, Northern Adirondack’s Ethan King and Alden Kerr, Chazy’s Jacob Kennedy, and Peru’s Austin Brault and Michael Danis.
Adams Glass, which finished last season with a 14-12-2 record, will be playing a 35-game schedule, including participating in the Vermont Senior Babe Ruth League championship where it finished in third place last year.
“The coaching staff is very excited about this year’s team,” Adams Glass head coach John Demarais, who will be assisted by Jim Reid, said. “With six local high schools represented on the team and playing so many games in a short period of time, we must play together. The kids seem to mesh together after our first practice.
“Austin House was last year’s team leader and he will be missed. It will be hard to replace his leadership on and off the field. But I’m sure with this group one or two will take over that role.”
Demarais said this is a turnover on the pitching staff.
“You lose some and you gain some,” he said. “We lost three pitchers, but we gained four in Sousa, King, Sherman and Kerr.
“Improvements from last year is team speed and having three left-handed hitters as compared to one last year, We will also be just as interchangeable with the players like we were last year.”
