announces results

PLATTSBURGH — The Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Weekend continued Sep. 8 morning with this year’s Cannonball Run at the Old Base Oval. The run was split into a 5k and 10k race with male and female divisions that included 106 total participants.

ADK schedules

AUSABLE FORKS — The Algonquin Chapter of ADK invites the public to hike on Upper and Lower Wolf Jaws from the Ausable Club via the Wedge Brook Trail Sept. 21.

This hike is considered strenuous. Contact Claire Velsey at 236-6646.

Celebrate the first day of autumn with a hike up the Catamount on Sept. 22. Contact Anne Bailey at 563-5794.

The canoe/kayak hike with Jim King scheduled for Sept. 23 has been canceled.

Fire department golf winners announced

CHAMPLAIN — The Sixth Annual Champlain Fire Department Golf Tournament was held Saturday at the North Country Golf Club.

First place low gross went to the team of Rocky Poupore, Scott Post, John Zurlo and Randy Grimshaw. First place low net was won by John Hicks, John Hicks, Adam Blair and Ricky Jubert. First place for the women went to Andree LeBarge, Yvonne Web, Edi Demarse and June Trombley.

Closest to the line was won by Linda Decoste for the women and Dan Banker for the men, longest drive by Nikomi Thompson for the women and Nick Chase for the men, and closest to the pin Tammy Trombley for the women and Rick Gero for the men.

Chasm Riders

AUSABLE CHASM — Nick Seleni, Brayden Martin, Sabine Amoriell, Jillian Martin and Luke Moffett won their respective divisions at last week’s Chasm Riders Mountain Bike Series.

Racing continues through Oct. 7 at the AuSable Chasm Recreation Center. The kids’ race begins at 10 a.m., followed by the adults’ race.

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau presents a meet and greet with the Clinton Community College soccer teams on Sept. 29 at the Plattsburgh State Field House.

The women’s game starts at 4:30 p.m. with an autograph session after the game including both the men’s and women’s teams. The men’s game will start at 6:30 p.m.

Youths who attend wearing their own team jersey when accompanied by an adult will receive free admission and a souvenir.

Cronin honored

with plaque

PLATTSBURGH — Dick Cronin was the first golfer to ever record a hole-in-one on the 14th hole at Bluff Point Golf and Country Club on July 4, 1979. The hole is a 262-yard par four.

Dick’s playing partners on that day were Bob Goodspeed, Jack Bell and Jim Ceiri.

Sandy Cronin, with the held and cooperation of owner David Dame, surprised Dick with a plaque honoring the special occasion. It was installed in the area of the 14th tee box.

Dick, who currently lives in South Carolina, recently made the trip with his son John to see the plaque first hand.

Lady Eagles

tournament Sept. 23

ROUSES POINT — Openings remain for teams in the Lady Eagles Girls Varsity Tournament that will be held Sunday, Sept. 23 at noon at North Country Golf Club.

The tournament is a four-person scramble with cash prizes for the top three finishers. There will also be several other contests on the course.

The cost is $40 for members not needing a cart, $50 for members needing a cart and $65 for nonmembers with a cart included.
