Bombers, Huskies pickup hockey victories


LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid boys’ hockey team took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission Tuesday.

The Blue Bombers, though, erupted for five goals in the second period as they defeated Saranac 7-1 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action.

“We didn’t play as well as we’d like in the first,” Lake Placid coach Keith Clark said. “The guys responded well and came out and had a great second period.

“That was the difference (Tuesday).”

Eddie Kane led the charge for the Blue Bombers with three goals and an assist. Two of those goals came in the first period. Kane’s goal at the 8:35 mark proved to be the game-winning goal.

Keegan Barney added a goal and an assist for Lake Placid (3-0, 1-0). Kyle Shipman, Shane McNierney and Troy Jacques each finished with a goal.

Nzoni Thompson, Ryan Damp, Ryan Meyer, Pat Kane, Elias Smith and R.J. Reid were each credited with an assist during the game.

Jacob Lilledahl scored the lone goal for Saranac, which came in the first period and tied the contest at one. Kyle Erickson collected the assist.

Tucker Angelopoulos (9), Jeffrey Smith (2) and Kamm Cassidy (3) combined for 14 saves and the victory for Lake Placid.

Zach Lareau stopped 36 shots in net in a losing effort for the Chiefs.

Franklin Academy 2, Northeastern Clinton 1

ROUSES POINT — Shawn Mulverhill scored with one minute left in regulation to lift the Huskies to a nonleague victory.

Tanner Studlack put Franklin Academy on the board with a power-play goal at 8:44 of the third period, and then Mulverhill netted the winner with assists from Trevor Cooley and Studlack.

Joey Brown made 32 saves for the win.

“I think we controlled the play most of game and had the better of the opportunities, but we had a couple breakdowns,” Northeastern Clinton coach Rob Francis said. “The first goal was a power-play goal; they got bodies in front, screened the goalie. The second, goal there were a bunch of shots in front and we didn’t do a good job picking up sticks.”

Reese Tucker scored the Cougars’ goal early in the second period. Cody Young had 26 saves.
