Elizabethtown-Lewis, Westport and Indian Lake/Long Lake battled for Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference supremacy all season long in 2011-12.
The Lions snuck past the Eagles to capture the MVAC’s Northern Division, while the Orange controlled the Southern Division title.
When it came to the Section VII Class D playoffs, however, the third-seeded Indian Lake/Long Lake knocked off both two-seeded Westport and top-seeded Elizabethtown-Lewis to capture the title.
The Orange and the Lions both return a large amount of players from last year’s teams, the Eagles, though, return just four players.
There are a lot of new faces with the Eagles this season. The team adds eight new players to its roster while head coach Liz Garrand takes over at the helm of the varsity squad.
Like the boys’ team, the girls’ finished with a 6-9 record last season and have already opened this season with a game. The Eagles lost to Seton Catholic in a non-league contest Tuesday with Allison Tatro and Andrea Meshefsky scoring four points apiece. With Tatro as the lone underclassman, the team has an abundance of juniors while Caitlin Kozak and Courtney Gilmore make up the two seniors.
The number of new players means the team will shake up the positions of some members which represent its own challenges, Garrand said. The team also looks to find a new scorer after losing 212 point-getter Olivia Seymour to graduation.
