PSU women prepare for Cardinal-Panther Classic

“(Aveson) has been rock solid for us,” Houle said. “She picked up right where she left off. She was an All-American last year and played great down the stretch. She’s as good as anyone in the country and a big part of our team. Aveson gives everyone confidence and is capable of making most saves.”

The Panthers (2-0, 2-0) picked up a pair of New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) wins last weekend, beating Colby 3-2 and 5-1 at home. The two teams last met March 10 in the NCAA quarterfinal round where Plattsburgh State picked up a 4-2 win.

“Middlebury is as good as any team in the country,” Houle said. “Last year’s quarterfinal game could have gone either way. They returned a lot of players and have a great freshman class.”
