Ticonderoga, Northeastern Clinton win early-season tournaments

PORT HENRY — The Ticonderoga boys’ basketball team bolted out to a 30-7 lead after one quarter against Elizabethtown-Lewis and rolled to a 66-38 victory in the second round of the Alzheimer’s Awareness Tournament Saturday.

The Sentinels were the only team to finish with a 2-0 record in the event.

Anthony DuShane led Ticonderoga with 17 points, while Mike Graney also recorded double figures with 14. Eleven Sentinels got into the scoring column.

“Our full-court pressure allowed us to get some easy buckets in the first quarter,” Ticonderoga coach Joe Defayette said. “Elizabethtown-Lewis kept fighting, however, and held us to seven points in the second quarter.

“Mike Graney then came out on fire in the beginning of the third, hitting three threes and a two.”

Zac Noka-Bailey tossed in 13 points to lead the Lions and Cortland White was next with seven points.

The Patriots fell behind, 10-5, after one quarter, but outscored the Vikings by a combined 41-9 in the middle two stanzas to pull away.

Austin Facteau, who finished with 13 points, scored 12 in the third quarter to help AuSable Valley break the game open. Shane Douglas tossed in a team-high 14 points and added five rebounds and five assists.

Zach Cosgrove and John Goodnough chipped in with eight points apiece, with Cosgrove getting five steals and Goodnough eight rebounds. Freshman Kobe Parrow contributed seven rebounds.

“Nick McDonald and Sultan Sikander played strong defensive games for us,” AuSable Valley coach Jamie Douglass said.

“Adam Jaquish was dominant inside for Moriah and played a strong game with 14 points.”

Other than Jaquish, no Moriah player scored more than four points.
