Depo awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

PLATTSBURGH — Ben Depo, a senior this season on the Plattsburgh State track and field team, was one of 58 student-athletes who were granted an NCAA Spring Postgraduate Scholarship. Each spring, 29 male and 29 female student-athletes from across all divisions are honored with an award of $7,500.

Depo, a Saranac native, maintained a cumulative 3.69 GPA in accounting and graduated in May. On the track, he distinguished himself as one of the premier decathletes in the nation thanks to his stellar season. He took the decathlon title at the SUNYAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the third time in four seasons by amassing 6,176 points in the event. Depo earned the SUNYAC’s Outstanding Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year Award as well as a nod to the All-SUNYAC First Team. Depo posted a 12th-place finish in the decathlon at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

To qualify for an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study. Student-athletes must also maintain at least a 3.2 grade-point average and be nominated by their institution’s faculty athletics representative.
