UTICA — The Clinton County Senior Mariners’ participation in the New York State American Legion Tournament was put on hold Thursday.
The Mariners’ scheduled winner’s bracket game against Melvin Roads on Thursday night at Murnane Field was pushed back to 9 a.m. today due to inclement weather.
The Mariners (25-8, 22-8) opened the double-elimination event on Wednesday with an 11-8 win over Ferris Goodridge.
“It’s disappointing not being able to play,” Mariners’ coach Matt Tolosky said. “We’re down here to play baseball, and we’re doing well.
“It’s frustrating after the momentum we got going on Wednesday with the win over Ferris Goodridge.”
Melvin Roads, considered a tournament favorite going in, erupted for 11 runs in the sixth inning on the way to a 14-1 seven-inning, run-rule victory over New Hartford on Wednesday night.
West Seneca eliminated Vestal Post early on Thursday, while the Ferris Goodridge versus New Hartford elimination contest was suspended because of rain in the fourth inning.
That game was scheduled to be completed on Thursday, along with a winner’s bracket contest between Middletown and Smith Post.
Six of the eight teams entered will still be alive today.
