Eagles have four champions at Captain Bailey tourney

BOONVILLE — With four individual champions, the Beekmantown wrestling team earned a runner-up finish at the Captain Bailey Tournament at Adirondack High School Saturday.

Brandon Defayette (195 pounds, 3-0), Dillon Peryea (170 pounds, 4-0), Eathan Bacon (138 pounds, 4-0) and Jon Graziane (132 pounds, 5-0) combined to go 16-0, claiming championships in their respective weight class.

Justin Steady (285 pounds, 4-1) and Bruce Goddeau (220 pounds, 4-1) each earned runner-up honors.

Adirondack High School took the Tournament with 229.5 points. Beekmantown was second with 168, while New Hartford completed the podium at 146.

Bethlehem (126.5), Rome Free Academy (109) and Oneida (68) finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

“It was a great tournament,” Eagles coach Len Gadway said. “(The) kids got better with every match. (We’re) looking to continue to improve.”


BALLSTON SPA — AuSable Valley had six wrestlers finish with winning records, but dropped four of its five matches at the Ballston Spa Duels Saturday.

The Patriots defeated Albany High 48-30, but dropped matches to Colonie 84-3, Cornith 69-18, Niskayuna 45-30 and Glens Falls 39-34.

Kenneth Rivers and Eli Gainer each went 4-1, while Dylan Baker, Teddy Tanzuck, Keith Christensen and Ricky Nichols finished 3-2.

Colonie claimed the Ballston Spa Duals title with a 6-0 record.
