LaPage leads Saints past Bobcats

SARANAC LAKE — Abbey LaPage scored both goals in the game as North Country Community College blanked Paul Smith’s College 2-0 in women’s soccer Thursday.

LaPage opened the scoring with an unassisted goal with just 47 seconds remaining in the first half.

She then made it 2-0, with Chelsea Lafountain assisting, 28:20 into the second half.

Emily Lapage preserved the win with eight saves in net for the shutout. Asenath Brooks made six stops for the Bobcats.

“Abbey LaPage, who scored both goals for us, Epril Nossent, Mackenzie Kemmerer and Jess Lawrence played fantastic in the middle of the field, controlling the ball,” North Country coach Kent Egglefield said. “And Emily Lapage played her usual great game in net.

“We weren’t at our best today, and this is the kind of game we would have lost last year. We’re a different team this year.”

The Saints, who improved to 3-1 overall, host Broome Community College, the No. 1-ranked team in the region, on Saturday.
