PHS can't stop Moriah on run

PLATTSBURGH — Things couldn’t have gone any smoother for C.J. Raymond in his Moriah debut.

The senior, who transferred from archrival Ticonderoga over the offseason, ran six times for 87 yards and two touchdowns as the Vikings defeated Plattsburgh High in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference football Friday, 38-6.

Raymond’s six and 36-yard touchdown runs occurred during the first 9:31 of the ballgame, helping Moriah jump out to a 19-0 lead.

“Our line did amazing (Friday),” Raymond said. “It was great. I mean holes you could drive trucks through. From there, I just ran hard, and it turned out the way it did. I’ll run behind any of them any day.”

Vikings coach Don Tesar utilized nine players to run the ball, accumulating 276 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Maintaining a 19-0 first-quarter lead, Moriah’s relentless attack continued.

Quarterback Cole Gaddor, who completed a 35-yard touchdown strike to Tyler Pratt midway through the first quarter, opened second-quarter scoring with a three-yard touchdown run at 6:09.

Then, just 2:26 later, senior Arto Nadeau managed to escape multiple missed tackles for a 36-yard score.

The Vikings took a commanding 32-0 lead into halftime.

Behind Raymond, Troy Welch (67), Nadeau (52) and Kyle Stockwell (24) combined for 143 yards and one touchdown.

Moriah was also ruthless on the defensive side of the football, swarming to ball carriers. The Hornets mustered -11 yards of total offense on 25 plays.

Plattsburgh High, though, concluded the game’s scoring by putting its first points on the board with less than five minutes remaining in the contest.

During a Vikings sweep play toward the Hornets’ sideline, the football was jarred loose. Sophomore Quran Carroll, who also accumulated 10 carries at running back on offense, recovered the ball in Moriah’s end zone.
