Eagles beat Emus on the track

BEEKMANTOWN — The Villemaire sisters set the pace for the Beekmantown girls as they cruised to a 99-32 victory over EKMW in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference track Thursday.

Kallie Villemaire took the top spot in the 100 meters (12.7 seconds), 200 (26.9) and the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches), while Kirsten Villemaire took individual firsts in the 1,500 (5:34.6) and the 800 (2:46.8) and helped the 3,200 relay team pick up a first.

Carlee Casey was also a triple-winner (100 hurdles, 400 relay, 1600 relay). Emily Anderson took both throwing events for the Eagles.

EKMW won the 3,000 (Haley Garno-Potter) and the long jump (Sara Snyder).

On the boys’ side, the Eagles won handily, 150-27.

Beekmantown’s Colin Quackenbush was a three-time winner in the distance events, and Matthew LaClair, Nate Foster, Cody Watts and Brogan Arthur all won two events.

CHAMPLAIN — Paul Ford finished first in four events — the 110 hurdles, the 400 hurdles, the triple jump and the high jump — to power the AuSable Valley boys to their win.

Brandon Ruocco added three firsts in the 3,200 relay, the 1,600 and the 1,600 relay.

Northeastern Clinton was led by Rodney Grimshaw, who won the 100 meters, 400 meters and long jump.

On the girls’ side, Samantha Smith paced the Cougars to victory by being a triple-winner in the 3,200 relay, 1,500 meters and 3,000 meters.

Double-winners for Northeastern Clinton were Mallory Honan in the 100 hurdles and 100 meters and Oriana LaFlesh in the shot put and discus.

Double-winners for the Patriots were Rachel Knapp in the 200 meters and 1,600 relay and Ashlee Estes in the 1,600 relay and high jump.

SARANAC — Connor Christopherson closed out his final regular-season track meet with a bang, leading Saranac to a dominating performance over Lake Placid with four wins.

Christopherson won the 110 hurdles, 400, long jump and triple jump.

On the other end of the spectrum, seventh-grader Andrew Cutaiar won the 100 with a 12.1-second sprint and ran the lead leg for the winning 1,600 relay team of Austin Myers, Brian Menia, Noah Pearsall and Cutaiar.

The Chiefs won every event.

On the girls side the score was closer, but Saranac still pulled out a 28-point victory over the Blue Bombers.

Sabrina Bruno and Janyll Barber were double-winners for the Chiefs, while Nina Armstrong and Gabby Armstrong were triple-winners for Lake Placid.

SARANAC LAKE — Both boys’ teams traded events throughout, but the Red Storm prevailed in the end.

Alex Beaudoin and Craig Leahy were two-time winners for Saranac Lake, claiming the 100 and 200, and 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles, respectively.

Seton Catholic countered with a strong distance showing. The Knights won the 3,200 relay, the 1,600 and the 800, as well as the 1,600 relay.

Mitchell Ryan earned two wins (3,200 relay, 1,600) for Seton Catholic, as did Kaden Baugh (3,200 relay, 1,600 relay).

All four seniors on the Saranac Lake girls team recorded at least one win in the Red Storm’s victory. Vanessa Salamy led the way with first-place showings in the 100 hurdles (16.6), the 200 (28.6) and the 1,600 relay. Blair Moody won the triple jump in 29-3 and the long jump in 13-11, and Annie Frenette was first in the 400 (1:05.4) and the 1,600 relay. Fellow senior Julia Murray added a victory in the high jump (4-0).

Samantha Martin and Kate Stevens were double winners for the Red Storm.

Margaret Champagne and Paige Spittler paced Seton Catholic. They were both on the winning 3,200 relay team, and Champagne won the 1,500 (5:16.9), while Spittler claimed the 400 hurdles (1:13.1).
