Bimonte lifts Blue Bombers over Patriots


LAKE PLACID — Liz Bimonte drove in the game-winning run with an infield hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Lake Placid a 5-4 victory over AuSable Valley in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference softball Thursday.

With the score tied at 4-all, Brooke Reid walked to begin the seventh and stole second. A dropped third strike then allowed the batter to reach first while Reid took third. Bimonte followed with her game-winning hit.

Winning pitcher Serina Hayes allowed three hits, struck out eight and walked four. Losing pitcher Madison Rondeau surrendered five hits, struck out nine and walked four.

Kelsey Taylor led the Blue Bombers offensively with a single and a double, while Hayes added a double and both Bimonte and Alexis Megliore had singles.

Kendra Niemannn doubled for the Patriots, with Miranda Sheffer and Logan Snow getting the other hits.

“Both teams had other opportunities to score,” Lake Placid coach Donna Moody said. “(Sumra) Sikander threw one of our runners out at the plate from the outfield in the fifth inning. Then in the top of the seventh, Haley Brandes threw one of their runners out at the plate from the outfield to keep the game tied.”

SARANAC LAKE — The Red Storm trailed 6-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning when they rallied for five runs and the win.

Jordy McDougall led Saranac Lake with two hits and four RBI, while Megan Kilroy added three hits and Brittany Woodruff two with an RBI.

Brittany Tschirhart struck out six and was the winning pitcher. Alexis Boulrice took the loss.

Amanda Campbell and Allison Seymour paced the Bobcats with two hits apiece. Northern Adirondack held a 3-2 lead when it scored three runs in the top of the seventh.

Northeastern Clinton 21, BEEKMANTOWN 6

CHAMPLAIN — A washout Wednesday didn’t keep the Cougars’ bats from staying hot Thursday.

Northeastern Clinton outscored Beekmantown by just one in the fourth inning before exploding for nine runs in the second to put the game away.

Still, the Cougars edged the Eagles by just three hits, 13-10.

Stephanie LaValley was the winning pitcher for the Cougars, who are now 5-8.

Victoria Marsh took the loss.

MVACCrown Point 30, Johnsburg 5

NORTH CREEK — Alex Macey hit two doubles and two singles, scored six runs and earned the pitching win as the Panthers cruised to a Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference win.

Brittany Foote smacked three doubles and a single for the Panthers and crossed home plate five times. Taylor Booth added a triple.

Laura Richards led Johnsburg with three hits, Valeri Gereau had two and Astasia Myler rapped a three-run home run. Courtney Allard went the distance in the pitching circle and took the loss.
