Dom Delello struck out seven and allowed four hits in going the distance for the pitching win, while Grant Strack went the route in taking the loss.

“They hit the ball,” Saranac Lake coach Bryan Munn said. “They had a lot of singles and left a lot of people on base.

“It was a tough one for us to lose. We didn’t hit the ball extremely well, but we put ourselves in a position to win the game. We needed one more hit to tie it, and you never know after that.”

Blake Altizer led Peru with four hits, while Andy Kneussle added three. Nick Demarais and Conor Casey finished with two hits apiece, and Mitchell Cunningham added a triple.

Dylan Gunther and Derek Thurber had doubles for the Red Storm, and Bradley Shumway added a run-scoring single.

Peru took a 2-0 lead in the third inning and added two more in the sixth for a 4-0 lead. Saranac Lake, however, answered with two in the home half of the sixth and scored one in the seventh to pull to within one before leaving the tying run on base.

The game was stopped in the fifth inning because of rain and was resumed a half hour later.
