PLATTSBURGH — Zach Marlow and Jake Casey combined to throw a one-hit shutout in NuWay Car Wash’s 9-0 victory over McSweeney’s in Saturday’s Little League opening day.
Marlow (10) and Casey (6) combined for 16 strikeouts in the victory. Marlow captured the win.
Elliot Hurwitz did the damage from the plate with three hits, including a home run, and three RBI. Isaac Garman, Will Colvard, Adam Darrah, Andrew St. Hilaire and Casey each delivered two hits. Marlow and Garman both had a double, while Abbi Middlemiss and Josh Baker each finished with a single.
Jarod Duquette, who suffered the loss, had the lone of the game with a double for McSweeney’s.
HANNAFORD 14, GROUND ROUND 7
Andrew Follmer went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI to lead the way as Hannaford took down Ground Round.
Christian Moura added a 3-for-5 performance on the afternoon for Hannaford. Noah Lederman, Alex Trudeau, James Conway and Brady Hebert each finished with two hits. JT LaPorte and Matt Fall chipped in with a hit apiece.
Follmer took the win on the mound, with Fall picking up a save.
Ryan Boone paced Ground Round with a 4-for-4 day, including a double and three RBI. Tom Murray added two hits, with Own Brown, Kyler Lyon and Benjamin Keever each having one.
Tyler Lyons took the loss for Ground Round.
VFW 8, CITY POLICE 2
Nick Lebeau went 3-for-3 with a double as VFW knocked off City Police.
Lebeau also took the victory on the mound for VFW.
Jacob Gregoire belted two hits, while Andy Lebeau finished with a hit. Joe Bedard and Tyler Baker each had a stolen base.
Matthew Maggy, Slade Wright, Logan Frenya and Nate Bordeau all had a hit for City Police.
