---- — Hughes golf tourney slated for May 25-26

PORT HENRY — The Moriah Country Club will host the annual Art Hughes Sr. and Jr. Golf Tournament on May 25-26. The format is a 36- hole scramble. Flights will be established after Saturday’s play.

Entry fees are $65 for members and $85 for non-members and include continental breakfast both days, dinner and entertainment Saturday night, and a practice round on Friday.

Paul Tom shoots hole-in-one

WESTPORT — Paul Tom recorded a hole-in-one Sunday with his son, Andrew, the witness. Tom aced the 152-yard fourth hole using an 8 iron.

Cards’ Lawrence lacrosse Playerof Week

CORTLAND —Tim Lawrence of the Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team has been named State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Week for the week ending April 28.

A Kings Park native, Lawrence contributed eight points in a 2-0 week for Plattsburgh State to help the Cardinals secure the No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. He began the week notching a hat trick and adding two assists in Wednesday’s 15-9 win against Potsdam. On Saturday against Geneseo, Lawrence scored three points and picked up a team-high eight ground balls in the 14-5 victory. Lawrence is one of four Plattsburgh State players with 40 or more points, entering the postseason with 26 goals and 15 assists for 41 points.

The nationally ranked No. 19 Cardinals host their first home playoff game Wednesday in the SUNYAC Semifinals. Second-seeded Plattsburgh State will take on third-seeded Brockport at 4 p.m. at the Field House Lacrosse Complex with the winner advancing to the SUNYAC Championship Game on Saturday.

Ashley Marshall earns 4th weekly honor

CORTLAND — Ashley Marshall of the Plattsburgh State softball team has been named State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 28. The honor marks the fourth of the 2013 season for the Plattsburgh State standout.

Marshall earned all three Plattsburgh State wins this weekend, posting a 3-1 record in four appearances. On Friday against Buffalo State, she tossed a complete game three-hit shutout to get the win in game one. She followed that up with three scoreless innings of relief in game two to pick up another victory. In the two games against the Bengals, she combined for 12 strikeouts.

On Saturday, the Franklin Academy product allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out 14 against Fredonia to earn her 19th win. Marshall suffered her only loss of the week on Sunday, a 6-4 decision against Ithaca in which she struck out eight while allowing five earned runs and 10 hits.

This week, Marshall also broke another program record, setting a new mark with 65 career complete games. She now owns 10 Cardinal pitching records.

The third-seeded Cardinals (22-14) begin postseason play Thursday at 1 p.m. against fourth-seeded Geneseo at the SUNYAC Tournament in Brockport.

PSU volleyball team to host clinic, tourney

PLATTSBURGH —The Plattsburgh State volleyball team will hosti a spring volleyball clinic and a tournament on Saturday, May 4 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Hall gymnasium.

Players and coaches from the Plattsburgh State volleyball team will run the clinic, which will be split up into two different sessions. Players ranging in age from nine to 13 will get the opportunity to work on their volleyball skills from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. while kids age 14 to 17 will go from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

After the clinics, participants 15 years of age and older can take part in a tournament from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The cost is $15 for participants who wish to take part in the clinic and the tournament with a special reduced rate being offered for groups of 10 or more players. Those who wish to participate in the tournament only will be charged $12. All of the money raised will go to the Plattsburgh State volleyball team.

Stick-puck, public-skating sessions slated

PLATTSBURGH — Can-Am North Sports Arena will be open for stick-n-puck sessions on Friday, from 5:30-7 p.m., and Sunday, from 3:45-5:15 p.m.

The center also will be open for public skating, Sunday, from 2:15-3:45 p.m.

NAC Bobcat Open scheduled for Aug. 13

PORT KENT —The Northern Adirondack Bobcat Open golf tournament will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13 at Harmony Golf Club. The 4-person scramble — a benefit for the NAC boys basketball program — will have a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

The cost is $55 for non-members and $45 for members and includes golf, cart, prizes and a meal afterward.Entries will be limited to the first 14--18 paid teams.
