Duquette HR lifts PHS over Chiefs

PLATTSBURGH — Cieara Duquette’s first home run of the season could not have happened at a more opportune time.

Down one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, the senior ripped a two-run homer, helping Plattsburgh High knock off No. 25 Saranac, 4-3.

“In the final frame, (Duquette) took an outside pitch to right field,” Hornets (5-1) coach Neil Bowlen said. “The right fielder misplayed the ball. She turned on the jets, and I had no plans of holding her up at third.”

Jamie Bedard pitched a complete game for Plattsburgh High, surrendering just four hits.

“Her pitch count was manageable,” Bowlen said. “I didn’t have to think about bringing anybody else in. I limited her innings in the last of couple of games, and it really paid off.”

Duquette was 3-for-4 and accounted for all four RBI. Kolbi Lyon also tagged an extra-base hit, a double.

Kourtnie Campbell led the Chiefs with two singles and a double, but was tagged with loss on the mound. Ashley Terry added a home run.

Bowlen credited senior leadership and the play of Hailey McLaughlin’s as keys to the win.

“Karlie Neale, (Lyon), (Duquette), Madison Trombley and Courtney Rohrig all know what it takes to win,” Bowlen said. “(McLuaghin) made some incredible plays in the infield, too.”
