---- — PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State women’s tennis team was unable to snap its recent skid Sunday afternoon as the Cardinals suffered a 9-0 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at the Memorial Hall Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals (1-4) got off to a shaky start after three losses to the Engineers (1-0) in doubles action. Plattsburgh State dropped matches at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-1. The closest matchup of the afternoon came at No. 2 doubles with RPI’s Christina Ciamarra and Jacqueline Curtsigner edging Plattsburgh State’s Sarah Drexinger and Jacqueline Ciriello by a score of 8-4.
Points were hard to come by for Plattsburgh State in Sunday’s six singles matchups. Cardinals junior Emily Carlin suffered a 6-2, 6-1 loss to RPI’s Casey Olsen at No. 1 singles but that is as close as the Cardinals would come to the Engineers the rest of the way. Kaitlyn Healy dropped to 2-3 on the year at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Emily Laurilliard while Plattsburgh State’s Drexinger, Ciriello, Olivia Wyand and Tedi Politano also took losses in singles play.
Plattsburgh State hits the road for the first time in 2013 next Sunday with a non-conference match at Union set for 1 p.m.
