SARANAC —Ethan Goslin was the quarterback for Saranac Central on Saturday in the Chiefs’ 42-28 victory over AuSable Valley. It was incorrectly reported that Dylan Goslin, Ethan’s older brother, was the quarterback.
Ethan Goslin accounted for more than 45 percent of Saranac’s offense with one touchdown passing and one touchdown rushing.
Cards’ Parrella SUNYAC soccer standout
CORTLAND — Nick Parrella of the Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team has been named State University of New York Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 8.
Parrella picked up five points in a 2-0 week for the Cardinals. Last Wednesday, Parrella scored the game-tying goal in the 76th minute of a non-conference game against Norwich – a game in which the Cardinals won, 3-2, in double overtime. The Miller Place native added three more points Saturday in a 4-0 shutout against Bard. Parrella assisted on the first goal of the game before scoring on a header shot in the 21st minute.
The Cardinals have claimed the first two weekly offensive awards from the conference, with freshman Alexis Archilla receiving last week’s honor. This is the first SUNYAC weekly honor of Parrella’s career.
Plattsburgh State returns to action Wednesday with a non-league game at Castleton. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
SuperNova, Big Boyz tourney champs
WEST PLATTSBURGH — SuperNova (Nova Bus) took first place in the Play to Give Coed Softball Tournament in the company division while Big Boyz captured the first place slot in the community division held recently at American Legion Post 1619.
Second-place honors in the company division went to MRP Syringes (Mold Rite) and third place was S&J Clean/KofC 7273 (S&J Clean). Blurred Lines was second in the community division followed by the Ducks.
Forty-teams played Aug. 24-25 with more than $20,000 to benefit the FitzPatrick Cancer Center. More than 100 local companies and individuals contributed to the success of this year’s effort.
Mohawk plans weekend doubleheader
AKWESASNE — One of the biggest events of the 2013 racing season will take place this weekend, as Mohawk International Raceway, along with Twin Leaf, present a DIRTcar and Go Nuclear Late Model Series Weekend Doubleheader Friday and Saturday night. All four major DIRTcar touring divisions will be on hand throughout the weekend.
Friday night’s program will feature the 358 Modified DIRTcar Series race, along with a Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock event, as well as the Go Nuclear Late Model Series with a non-points event with the top two Late Model finishers earning a guaranteed starting spot into Saturday night’s Richard Tenace Memorial event.
The following night will be another big night at MIR, as the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series comes to town, along with the next round of the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series. In addition, the Go Nuclear Late Model Series returns once again for the 1st Annual Richard Tenace Memorial event, paying $1500 to win.
Friday night’s general admission prices are $30 for adults, $25 for students and seniors and $15 for children 12 and under. Pit Admission is $35 for members and $40 for non-members. Pit Gates and Grandstand area will open at 4pm, with Hot Laps beginning at 6pm. Time Trials for 358 Modified Series and Pro Stock Series will begin at 6:45 p.m. followed by heat races at approximately 7:15 p.m.
Saturday night’s general admission is $35 for adults, $30 for students and seniors and $15 for children 12 and under. Pit admission is $40 for members and $45 for non-members. Pit Gates and Grandstand area will open at 2:30 p.m, with Hot Laps beginning at 5 p.m. Time trials for Big Block Modifieds and Sportsman are slated for 5:45 p.m. with heat race action set to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Weekend passes are available as well. General admission prices are $60 for adults, $50 for students and seniors, $25 for Children 12 and Under. A weekend pit pass is available for $80. Free camping on the MIR premises is permitted. Breakfast will be served from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday for $8. A chicken dinner will also be available for lunch from 11 a.m. until all is sold at a price of $10.

Can-Am stick/puck, skating sessions set
PLATTSBURGH — The Can-Am North Sports Centre will be open for stick-n-puck and public skating on Sunday. Public skating will be from 3:30-5 p.m., followed by stick-n-puck from 5-6:30 p.m.
PHS’s Miller helps St. Michael’s to victory
WINOOSKI, Vt. — Former Plattsburgh High standout Hillary Miller turned in a career-high performance Saturday in helping Saint Michael’s College defeat Saint Lawrence University 3-1 at the Victory Promotions Invitational in Potsdam. The Purple Knights went 3-1 for the weekend with victories also over SUNY Plattsburgh (3-1) and SUNY Potsdam (3-2). They lost to SUNY Canton 3-1.
Miller, a junior, notched a career-high 22 digs in the victory over St. Lawrence. In the victory over Plattsburgh, Miller was credited with 17 digs.
Lucas Cross Willsboro keeper
WILLSBORO — Lucas Cross was in goal for the Willsboro Warriors Friday in a season-opening 3-0 loss to Northern Adirondack. It was incorrectly reported that Nick Arnold was the keeper.
Cross came up with 12 saves in a solid effort in a losing effort.
