Cards’ Parrella SUNYAC soccer standout

CORTLAND — Nick Parrella of the Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team has been named State University of New York Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 8.

Parrella picked up five points in a 2-0 week for the Cardinals. Last Wednesday, Parrella scored the game-tying goal in the 76th minute of a non-conference game against Norwich – a game in which the Cardinals won, 3-2, in double overtime. The Miller Place native added three more points Saturday in a 4-0 shutout against Bard. Parrella assisted on the first goal of the game before scoring on a header shot in the 21st minute.

The Cardinals have claimed the first two weekly offensive awards from the conference, with freshman Alexis Archilla receiving last week’s honor. This is the first SUNYAC weekly honor of Parrella’s career.

Plattsburgh State returns to action Wednesday with a non-league game at Castleton. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
