Mike Flynn, a 1972 graduate of Springfield College, joins the Platttsburgh High School faculty after a successful year at Dannemora High School. Flynn takes over from Dutch Craumer as JV basketball coach and succeeds Paul Dingman as varsity baseball coach.
Bobbie Dragoon and Pat Tom of Port Henry win the club championships at Westport Golf and Country Club.
Peru’s Gary Giroux, who batted .415 with 15 RBI, is chosen as the Most Valuable Player for the Champlain Valley Baseball League’s regular season while Ellenburg’s Barry Dimick wins the playoff MVP honor with a 13-for-20 effort.
Don Goff gets 3 hits and George Kurz and Kevin Branon two each to lead The Store past Sharkey’s 15-14 in the deciding game of the AuSable Forks Fast-Pitch Softball League playoffs.

Marcia Willis of Brainardsville wins 3 first-place ribbons while Gene Darrah of Wilmington and Suellen Botsford of Keeseville each claim 2 in the Four Meadows Farm Horse Show.

Plattsburgh’s 2 Kiwanis teams come up short in the state playoffs in Watertown. The Utica Juniors nip Nitzi’s Foxes 3-1 with Don Buckley getting the lone hit for the Foxes. The Dewitt grasshoppers jump on the Plattsburgh Pirates 14-5. Ronnie Laporte rips a 3-run triple for the Pirates.
