North Country's Carder named NJCAA All-American

SARANAC LAKE — Dr. Steve Tyrell, President of North Country Community College, is pleased to announce that Steven Carder has been selected as a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) First-Team All-American in basketball.

Steven is the son of Tim and Jill Carder of Champlain and a graduate of Northeastern Clinton Central School. Steven is a sophomore in the Sports and Events Management program and will graduate in May. He has accepted a full scholarship to continue his academic and athletic career at Daemen College in Buffalo.

Steven and his parents will be accompanied to Las Vegas, Nevada in May by North Country men’s basketball coach Chad LaDue, where he will join 29 other athletes to be recognized for this outstanding achievement. He will participate in the NJCAA National Men’s Basketball All-Star game at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on May 11.

In addition, Steven leaves North Country as the all-time leading scorer with 1,246 points and all-time leading rebounder with 652. This year he was also named Player of the Year in the Mountain Valley Conference, Player of the Year in Region III, and Junior College Player of the Year for the Basketball Coaches Association of NY.

Coach Chad LaDue, is very proud of all Steven’s accomplishments, both on and off the court, during his career at NCCC.

“There is no doubt that Steven will forever be known as one of the finest young men to ever wear a Saints uniform,” LaDue said.

“We are so very proud of the Athletic Department, Coach LaDue and the incredible season the men’s basketball team had,” Dr. Tyrell said. “It was spectacular play at every game. Steven’s accomplishments were a big part of the team’s success and the All-American Award is icing on the cake.”
