‘Race the Base’
set for Nov. 9
PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will host ‘Race the Base: a Charity Fun Run to Benefit the American Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief’. The fun run will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 at the City Recreation Center on US Oval in Plattsburgh.
Walkers and families with children and strollers are also encouraged to attend. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. and the recommended donation is $20, but any donation is acceptable. All participants are required to run/walk with flashlights and/or headlamps. Special recognition will be given to those who show up and run with the most lights on. There are two options available for participants: a one mile lap around the oval or a three mile (three laps) option for runners. All proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross and the Hurricane Sandy Relief fund.
Volunteers and City Police will aid in the safe passage of participants around the oval. Vehicle traffic will temporarily be restricted to “one way” around the Oval in the outside lane. Participants are encouraged to pre-register by going to the City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department Facebook page and ‘like’ the Race the Base event. This will give organizers an idea of the size of the crowd expected to attend.
The mission of the American Red Cross is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity
