Patriot girls final four bound

PLATTSBURGH — After a poor shooting start for AuSable Valley, it would be Logan Snow’s three with 42 seconds left in the fourth, that would lead to the Patriots’ 48-43 victory over Section II’s Hoosic Valley Saturday in the Class C regional championship at the Plattsburgh State Field House.

Hoosic Valley was the returning Class C state champion, and held the No. 1 ranking coming into Saturday’s game. AuSable Valley was ranked eighth.

The Patriots started the game slow, as they missed nine consecutive baskets before putting points on the board midway through the first quarter. Once the Patriots started getting hot from behind the arc, they were able to pull ahead of the Indians.

Snow helped AuSable Valley go on a 9-0 run to finish the second quarter by hitting her first three to tie the game at 18. The Patriots held all of the momentum going into the second half as they had a 24-18 lead.

Hoosic Valley, however, was able to battle back in the third quarter and get within three of the Patriots, due to excellent play by senior Cassidy Chapko, who finished with 29 points.

Alyssa Paul was the only other player for the Indians to hit double figures, finishing with 10 points.

Once again, though, AuSable Valley ended the quarter strong after Madison Rondeau’s made basket, which came about two feet behind the 3-point arc as time expired.

“Mady made a huge three at the buzzer, and I think that really helped us,” Snow said.

Rondeau’s buzzer beater seemed to insert life into both teams, as both Hoosic Valley and AuSable Valley started the fourth quarter by exchanging 3-point baskets.

AuSable Valley coach Roger Long called a timeout with 5:55 left in the game, trying to make adjustments against Chapko’s hot shooting.
