PLATTSBURGH — Freshman Giancarlo Ventre played another solid game in net and Plattsburgh High skated to a 2-1 victory over Beekmantown in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys’ hockey Wednesday night at the Ameri-Can North Sports Center.
The unbeaten Hornets (4-0, 3-0) continued to be stingy on defense as Ventre turned aside 26 shots. Plattsburgh has surrendered just four goals in its first four games.

“Ventre’s a freshman who’s technically sound,” said Plattsburgh coach Jamie Reidy. “I can’t say enough about him. We’ve been resting Robby Knowles, who has a groin injury.
“We had only 12 skaters tonight because of illness and injuries, and tried to conserve our energy. I felt we did a good job keeping their shots to the outside.”
The Hornets grabbed the lead at 1:55 of the first period when Alex Maston scored off a Jack Tolosky assist.
Then with 5:50 gone in the second stanza, Eric Bechard put Plattsburgh up, 2-0, with the assists going to John Anthony Fine-Lease and J.D. Side.
The Eagles cut their deficit in half on Josh Barriere’s goal, which came with 3:04 left in the second. Brenden Carnright and Brett Giroux picked up assists.
Beekmantown, however, was unable to get the equalizer.
“It was a great high school hockey game, with a great atmosphere,” said Reidy. “It’s always a fun game when we play Beekmantown because they are well coached and play a good system.
“Both teams have good players. But, absolutely, this is a big early-season win for us.”
The Eagles held a 27-20 advantage in shots on goal. Dustin Plumadore made 18 stops for Beekmantown.
