Stampede trample Mariners

SARATOGA — The Clinton County Senior Mariners were Stampeded Wednesday night.

The Mariners (16-7) had their six-game winning streak come to an abrupt end when the Saratoga Stampede recorded an 11-0 six-inning victory in the Cooper’s Cave Tournament.

The Stampede, who dropped a recent 1-0 decision to the Mariners, have had their hitting shoes on after beginning the annual event with a 16-5 win over SD Ireland, Vt. the day before.

Saratoga erupted for seven runs in the second inning off starter Jeremy Barber and reliever Ryan Meyer.

“We had four walks and an error,” Mariners coach Matt Tolosky said. “They also had a swinging bunt and a ball off our pitcher’s foot.

“They capitalized on their good fortune, hit the ball well and put the pedal to the metal. They played a good game.”

Jake Taylor tossed a three-hit shutout, allowing only singles to Robby Knowles, Mitch Cunningham and Brandon Rabideau.

“Give a lot of credit to their pitcher — he did a fine job,” Tolosky said.

“We were coming off a big weekend and were flat tonight.”

Clinton County opposes SD Ireland today at noon and has games scheduled for Friday versus North Kingston Shoreline, R.I. at noon and Saugerties Post at 5:30 p.m. Any Mariners games for Saturday will be determined by how well the team does the next two days.
