Beekmantown paces girls' track and field All-Stars

Twenty girls’ track and field athletes collected all-star recognition at the Section VII Track and Field State Qualifier at AuSable Valley Central School May 31.

Andy Hastings, whose Beekmantown squad finished undefeated in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference and captured their second straight Section VII championship, was honored with the 2013 Coach of the Year award.

New York State sportsmanship awards were given out at the New York State Championships in Middletown June 8 and were voted on by all coaches in Section VII.

This year’s recipient of the New York State sportsmanship award was Mallory Honan of Northeastern Clinton.

EKMW and Lake Placid were honored by Section VII representatives with the Ray Holmes Sportsmanship Award.

Coach of the Year

Andy Hastings, Beekmantown- “It is an honor to be chosen Coach of the Year,” Hastings said. “This was possible because of the efforts of the entire coaching staff, which includes Gary Phillips (throws), Ron Moss (sprints) and Cheryl Turner (jumps).”

Kallie Villemaire, Beekmantown- Only a sophomore, Villemaire established herself as one of the top sprinters in the area. She was undefeated in Section VII in the 200 meters and finished second at the Queensbury Invitational. Villemaire posted a season-best time of 25.2 seconds at the State Qualifier and finished an impressive third at the New York State Track and Field Championships. A fierce competitor, Villemaire possesses the rare combination of talent and a strong work ethic.

Mikaela Frechette, Beekmantown- A talented multi-event athlete, Frechette dedicated herself to becoming one of the top 400-meter hurdlers in the area. She improved her personal best time by over three seconds, while winning the event at the State Qualifier meet. Frechette eclipsed her personal best once again, finishing eighth at the New York State Track and Field Championships with a time of 1:09.13. Frechette is a leader by example.
