Corona Championship winners announced

ROUSES POINT — Seven-time North Country Golf Club champion Bart Vanleuvan shot a stellar 73-71 two-round total of 14 to claim his first Corona Championship title.

The 36-hole championship had a very strong field that included amateurs and professional golfers.

Late charges by three-time champion Ed Davis (78-69) and Massachusetts’ professional Brian Thomas (79-69) were not enough to catch Vanleuvan on his home course as he cruised to a three-shot victory.

Ethan Votraw (78-72), Pat Welch (76-75) and Dustin Beauregard (78-73) rounded out the top-six finishers of the Pro Group.

The Palmer group Seniors (60+) saw a Former NCGC Club champion Dan Letourneau win the 18-hole tournament with a score of 76, with Don Cooke of Rouses Point coming close behind with a 77.

The Nicklaus group Seniors (50+) was won by Ernie Barcomb of Rouses Point with a 75 to win his first major golf event.

Barcomb had a great contest with Keven Gero from Altona, who came in second with a 77.
