10 YEARS AGO (2003)

Sherry Dobbs, former Peru and Plattsburgh State standout, is named men’s basketball coach at Potsdam State.

Ed Trombley, sailing USA 833, becomes the first to capture the Mayor’s Cup in a Soling vessel.

Casey Lawyer runs for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns and Heith Geiser hooks up with Eddie Castine on a 54-yard TD pass to lead the Lake City Stars to a 24-21 victory over the Vermont Ice Storm.

Ted Cook scores 3 goals to spark the Champlain Valley Junior Elite to a 9-3 triumph over the New York Selects in the championship game of the Boston Selects Junior Hockey Tournament.

20 YEARS AGO (1993)

Frank Kirby passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Plattsburgh North Stars to a 19-0 victory over Glove Cities in Empire Football League play.

Shawn Turner, 26, of Rouses Point, is selected to play in the U.S. Olympic Festival in San Antonio in roller hockey.

Scott Moody and Matt Sames combine on a four-hit shutout and Frank Buksa belts a two-run homer in the opener while Neil Stevens adds a two-run double in the nightcap as the Plattsburgh Cardinals clinch the CVBL regular-season title with a 5-6, 5-4 sweep of the Midas Mudhens.

Defensive standout Tim Brown, a member of the Plattsburgh North Stars since the team’s beginning in 1991, leaves the team after he is relocated to an air base in California.

25 YEARS AGO (1988)

Jim Davison goes 8-for-9 while Don and Dennis Phillips contribute 6 hits apiece to lead K & L Plumbing and Heating to the New York State Amateur Softball Association Class B Slo-Pitch championship. Gary Decoste is the winning pitcher in all 3 games.

Rusty Bigelow of Dannemora defeats Kevin Lang of Malone by 2 strokes to win the Malone Golf Club championship for the third year in a row.

Winning pitcher Anne Slattery collects 3 hits to lead the Blue to a 7-6 win over the Red in the City Women’s Softball League All-Star Game. Bea Ashline, Peggy Warren, Becky Randall and Sandy Harwood also chip in with hits for the Blue while Debbie Luff and Bonnie Justinger get 3 hits each for the Red.
