NCCS escapes on McCarthy's OT goal

ALBANY — PERU — Kyle McCarthy recorded a hat trick, with the third goal coming in overtime, as Northeastern Clinton edged Peru 3-2 in boys’ Northern Soccer league action Tuesday.

McCarthy started the scoring off in the first with a header off a pass from Ryan Marks.

Jacob Dick maneuvered passed the defense after a pass from Jonathan Plessis-Belair and put the tying goal into the lower right corner of the net for the Indians.

Ian Spear would get a go-ahead goal for Peru two minutes later with a direct kick he hooked into the lower right corner.

With just 18 seconds left in the first half, Northeastern Clinton’s McCarthy headed in another with an assist from Hunter McKenna to tie it back up.

McCarthy completed the hat trick three minutes into overtime on a breakaway to end the game and secure the win for the Cougars.
