Freshman lights it up for Moriah

Chateaugay wins big; Schroon Lake sweeps; Keene girls defeat Chazy

PORT HENRY — Freshman Adam Jaquish scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Moriah Vikings knocked off the visiting Red Storm of Saranac Lake 55-40 Monday night in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys’ basketball.

Mike Mero added 12 points for Moriah, while Derek Brassard finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

“We played well,” Vikings coach Brian Cross said. “Teddy (Yanchitis) is tough inside and the (Kevin) Morgan kid played well, too; he’s quick.

“We double-teamed (Yanchitis) in the post and played much better defensively, which got us some baskets in transition.”

Morgan led the way with 16 points for Saranac Lake, while Yanchitis tossed in 13.
